First object teleported from Earth to orbit –reports

A group of Chinese scientists has successfully teleported an object from the ground to the Earth's orbit, reports said.

A report on BBC News said a single photon was teleported from the Gobi desert to a satellite orbiting 500 kilometers above the earth.

The satellite Micius, named after a Chinese philosopher who died in 391 B.C., was a "highly sensitive photon receiver that can detect the quantum states of single photons fired from the ground," a report on Technology Review said.

The BBC report said the teleportation was achieved through "quantum entanglement," which it described as a process "where two particles react as one with no physical connection between them." —KBK, GMA News
